Algonquin murder suspect still awaiting extradition from Colorado
The woman suspected in the murder of an Algonquin couple remains in a Colorado detention center as the state awaits extradition paperwork from the Illinois governor's office.
Arin M. Fox, 40, made her first court appearance in a month on Thursday in Douglas County, Colorado. She faces four counts of first-degree murder, two counts of possession of a stolen vehicle, and additional charges of aggravated battery and domestic battery in connection with the slaying of Leonard J. Gilard, 73, and Noreen S. Gilard, 69, whose bodies were found Nov. 8 during a well-being check by officers in Algonquin.
Fox fled to Colorado in the couple's vehicle and was captured there on Nov. 9, according to authorities. On Thursday, she appeared in front of Judge Theresa Slade of Colorado's 18th Judicial District for an extradition hearing via Webex video from the Douglas County sheriff's office detention facility, south of Denver, where Fox has been held since being apprehended.
Joseph Whitfield, representing the district attorney's office, told Slade the Colorado governor's office has yet to receive the necessary extradition paperwork from Illinois. He said the Illinois governor's office should send it to Colorado "relatively soon."
Slade and Fox's attorney, Daniel Cunny, agreed to reschedule Fox's extradition hearing to next Wednesday.
