St. Charles Veterans Center holding holiday car parade
Local veterans are welcome to participate in Sunday's Star-Spangled Christmas Car Parade being sponsored by the St. Charles Veterans Center.
Veterans from four area posts - American Legion Post 342, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5036, AMVETS Post 503 and Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 693 - should arrive at the Kane County Fairgrounds through Gate 2 by no later than 10:30 a.m. and park in the VIP area adjacent to the Robinson Building.
Up to 100 cars, meanwhile, will assemble at 9:30 a.m. in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church parking lot at 1145 North 5th Ave. They'll proceed across town and drive into the fairgrounds through the Oak Street entrance to distribute gifts to the awaiting veterans.
For more information, contact Vanessa at (630) 377-9845 or (630) 402-1919. Participants can register for the parade by emailing Tracy Smodilla at tracysmodilla@comcast.net and including "Veterans Car Parade" in the subject line. Participants, who are encouraged to decorate their cars with a patriotic or holiday theme, also should include a name, daytime phone number, email address and the make and year of the vehicle.
If participation isn't possible, donations can be mailed to the St. Charles Veterans Center at 311 North 2nd St., Unit 109, 60174.
