Cost Plus World Market closing Randhurst store at end of month

Cost Plus World Market is subtracting itself from Randhurst Village.

The store at 151 E. Euclid Ave., which offers "unique and artisan products" ranging from home furnishings to imported food, will close at the end of December, according to a message on its phone line. The message said items will be available at liquidation prices until then.

Mount Prospect Community Development Director Bill Cooney confirmed the closing and said the village and Randhurst owner DLC Management are working to address vacancies, starting with the anchor store space left empty when Carson's closed in 2018.

"How is it doing overall? It is struggling," Cooney said of Randhurst. "There are some stores that are doing very well out there and others that aren't. It is hit or miss by the type of retailer that you're talking about. But some of the bigger ones out there are doing very well." Cost Plus Inc., which operated World Market and Cost Plus World Market, was acquired in 2012 by Bed Bath & Beyond, which closed its Randhurst location earlier this year. When that closing was announced in December 2019, Mount Prospect Village Manager Michael Cassady expressed concern for the future of Cost Plus World Market.
