DuPage County awards grants to support those recovering from opioids

A DuPage County task force has awarded nearly $75,000 in grants to government and community groups providing services to address the opioid crisis.

The Heroin/Opioid Prevention and Education Taskforce, or HOPE, a joint effort by the county board and county health department, announced three recipients of the funding.

DuPage County Adult Probation will receive $25,000 to connect 40 probation clients most at risk of opioid overdose death with a recovery coach to support their recovery.

Another $25,000 will allow the PATH to Recovery Foundation to provide peer-based recovery support services to people in the early stages of recovery in DuPage.

Serenity House Counseling Inc. also will receive $24,882 for the provision of harm reduction treatment services to clients.

The county board has pledged to set aside $100,000 annually for the task force. Early next year, the task force will determine the focus areas for the remaining funding.
