Countryside firefighters give back to community

Submitted by the Countryside Fire Protection District

The Countryside Firefighters' Association each year raises money so they can give back to the community that always supports them.

Recently, Countryside Fire Protection District firefighters converged on Mariano's Fresh Market in Vernon Hills and filled grocery carts for families that may need a little help this holiday season.

Thanksgiving meals were assembled and donated to Fremont, Vernon, Libertyville and Ela townships for families in need. The association purchased all of the fixings for dinner and dessert, while Prime Beef Ltd. of Mundelein and Fulton Market of Chicago donated the turkey for each meal.

"This year, more than ever, the need to take care of each other within the community exists," CFFA President Jake Smith said. "We know we can't help everyone that needs it this year, but every little bit helps. It feels great to be able to do our part."
