Northbrook's News You Can Use
It may not have gotten the play it deserved, but Northbrook Village Manager Rich Nahrstadt was the subject of a resolution at the most recent village board meeting.
On Nov. 10, Village President Sandy Frum and the board of Trustees approved a third amendment to the employment agreement with Nahrstadt.
The resolution essentially updated the arrangement that's existed since Nahrstadt since first became village manager on May 1, 2008 - but it also contained provisions regarding his impending retirement.
An employee of the village since 1991, Nahrstadt has notified the village he will retire on April 30, 2021.
Upon retirement, he will receive one full year of salary, which according to the village is $246,413; forgiveness of a new promissory note; executive retirement consideration equal to 40 days pay; transfer of title to the vehicle Nahrstadt used while employed by the village; payment for unused sick leave pay and vacation pay as of the retirement date; and 48 months of premium-free health insurance in consideration of Nahrstadt remaining available for 10 hours per month as a consultant over that 48 months.
If the board has not hired a village manager ready to start by Nahrstadt's retirement date, the board may request him to continue in the position for up to three months.

Got your back
The Rotary Club of Northbrook's annual "Coats Off Your Back" coat drive, in partnership with PADS of Lake County, is under way.
Donation bins initially were set up at the Northbrook Public Library, the North Suburban YMCA and Sunset Foods. Updated locations may be found at the Rotary Club of Northbrook's Facebook page.
The drive is dedicated to collecting new winter clothing such as gloves, hats, boots, jackets, scarves and, yes, coats.
Auspicious beginnings
Through Thanksgiving, Willowbrook School and the Northbrook Public Library are partnering on a book stroll around the school, 2500 Happy Hollow Road, Glenview, in presenting "Preaching to the Chickens: The Story of Young John Lewis."
It's a fun way for children and adults to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time.
The book, written by Jabari Asim and illustrated in watercolor by E.B. Lewis, shows the boyhood of the late civil rights leader and United States representative. Deciding he wants to be a preacher, the young John Lewis first finds his voice preaching to his flock - of chickens on the family farm.
Copies of the book will be on display around the field behind Willowbrook school for families to read.
