College of Lake County announces passing of former president Jerry Weber

It is with deep sadness the board of trustees of the College of Lake County District 532 announces the unexpected death of former CLC President Dr. Girard (Jerry) Weber on Nov. 11. He held the role from April 2009 to July 2017 before becoming the president of Bellevue College in Washington.

"Dr. Weber served tirelessly as an advocate for diversity, inclusion and equity initiatives, resulting in the college receiving state and national recognitions," said CLC Board of Trustees chairman Dr. William M. Griffin. "He advanced the college around student success, guided the college through several major capital projects and was a major supporter of the college's sustainability efforts. The board of trustees and College of Lake County express their sincere appreciation and gratitude to Jerry Weber for his years of service, leadership and dedication."

Weber dedicated most of his career to Illinois community colleges. He began as a writing instructor at Harper College before joining Wood Community College where he held teaching and administrative positions. He then served as dean for academic support programs at Triton College and was founding vice president of instruction at Heartland Community College. He later became president of Kankakee Community College until he accepted the position at CLC.

When sharing this news with the CLC community, CLC President Dr. Lori Suddick said, "Dr. Weber's leadership in international education and sustainability left an important, lasting legacy at CLC. As a colleague of Jerry's, I know that I, along with so many of you, appreciated his warm personality and his passion for connecting with students. He will be missed."

The Lancer community extends sincere sympathy to Jerry's family.
