Lombard Garden Club hosts monthly programs

The Lombard Garden Club is currently hosting their monthly meetings online, until further notice. The club generally meets from 12:30 to 3 p.m. on the fourth Friday of the month at the Lombard Community Building, 433 E. St. Charles Road. For information, visit www.lombardgardenclub.org.

On Friday, Nov. 13, Carol Cichorski will focus on "Winter Interest." A garden can be wonderful to look at all year long, as are the others in this presentation from the 2014 Chicago Flower and Garden Show.

A members-only holiday luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 11. Christopher Mark of Christopher Mark Fine Flowers will design five arrangements at the luncheon to create a winter wonderland.

On Friday, Jan. 22, Cindy Crosby will speak on "Tallgrass Prairie: Grocery Store, Apothecary, and Love Shop." In 2019, she talked on "Dragonflies and Damselflies." Throughout Illinois' history, people have thought of the tallgrass prairie - the original landscape of Illinois - as their grocery store, pharmacy, art supply shop and even a place to find love potions. Discover the charming stories behind these rugged native plants as you enjoy beautiful color photography. Learn more about their beauty and utility in the home garden today.

On Friday, Feb. 26, Deborah Marqui will talk about "How to Create a Healing Garden." A passionate gardener and cancer survivor, Marqui will share how to create a healing garden at your own home. A healing garden can be planted in a special area in the yard or it can be as small as a container for your deck or balcony. Her presentation will show how each of her gardens in St. Charles has a different theme, and every garden has a story. Come and learn how to create your own sanctuary.

On Friday, March 26, learn about "GMOs in Our Lives." University of Illinois Extension Education Richard Hentschel speaks on GMOs. Now called biologically engineered, they are plants bred for improved characteristics and abilities as plant breeders have done since Mendel crossed those peas for the very first time. What is different is how that is being done. Breeding techniques have shortened the start to finish times by years. Ultimately consumers will decide if these plants are acceptable for themselves and family.

On Friday, April 23, the members-only spring luncheon will feature Noelle Luchinski of The Green Branch in Glen Ellyn. She has been a presenter at the Floral Symphony for many years. Her arrangements are dazzling and delightful. She will present a variety of festive seasonal spring arrangements.
