Report: No surgery for Chicago Bears' Trubisky

Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky does not need surgery on his right shoulder, according to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Bears coach Matt Nagy confirmed Thursday that Trubisky was in California to see a specialist about his shoulder. Nick Foles' backup entered Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints for one play, and was tackled into the ground on a 3-yard run.

According to Schefter, Trubisky will continue his rehab in Chicago and is considered week-to-week at this point.

Nagy did not have any update when he last spoke with the media early Thursday evening.

"I'm sure [Trubisky's] got a lot going through his mind," Nagy said.

If Trubisky is unable to play Sunday against the Tennessee Titans, the Bears will likely need practice squad quarterback Tyler Bray on the active roster as Foles' backup.

The Bears have tryouts with free agent quarterbacks Jake Rudock and Kyle Sloter, but the league currently has a six-day process for teams to bring in free agents due to the coronavirus. So even if the Bears sign another quarterback, he wouldn't be available by Sunday.

It has been an unusual week for the Bears, who canceled practice Thursday due to a positive COVID-19 test. They are expected to return to practice Friday.
