CLC safe driver program recognized for excellence

The National Safety Council has awarded the defensive driving program at the College of Lake County the Excellence in Driver Safety Training Award. This award recognizes the leadership and valuable contributions the program makes to advance their mission to save lives.

"Everyone works very hard to make our traffic safety program a continually award-winning one," said Bret Webster, judicial services manager at the college.

"2020 has been chaotic and challenging, to say the least, but our great instructors continue delivering our impactful courses to the best of their ability."

Since 1991, CLC's judicial services department has offered the NSC's defensive driving courses for motorists who are under court supervision for minor traffic violations in Lake County.

Class content emphasizes defensive driving habits, including rules of the road, collision prevention tactics and the everyday driving situations motorists face. Classes are offered in both English and Spanish.

The college also offers the powerful NSC's Alive at 25 program for teen drivers. This highly interactive, four-hour program teaches young drivers how to take responsibility for their own driving behavior. Every trained driver helps advance progress on the Road to Zero, an NSC initiative to end roadway deaths by 2050.
