Man charged with drug, alcohol offenses after Lisle crash
A Blue Island man faces several drug, alcohol and driving charges after a crash Wednesday in Lisle.
Sammy Rice, 31, of the 13800 block of South Western Avenue, is being held on $25,000 bail at the DuPage County jail as of noon Thursday.
Lisle police say they were called at 8:37 a.m. to the 2200 block of Ogden Avenue for a report of a broken down vehicle blocking two lanes of traffic.
They found an empty 2017 Nissan Altima with front-end damage, two flat tires and air bags deployed, indicating it had been involved in a crash. Damage was found to a curb several blocks away.
A caller told police the driver had run off south. The driver, identified as Rice, was arrested about a mile away at Burlington Avenue and Burnham Street.
According to DuPage court records, police say they found an open bottle of alcohol, 46 grams of marijuana, and 94 individually packaged pills in the car. The pills contained methamphetamine, the records say.
Rice is charged with one felony count of possession of a controlled substance, driving on a suspended license, transporting open alcohol within a vehicle, failure to notify police after a traffic accident and unlawful possession of more than 30 grams of marijuana.
Court records indicate that in 2017, Rice pleaded guilty to possession of a weapon by a felon, in an Elmhurst case. He was sentenced to four years in prison. He had previously been sentenced to three years in prison for a 2012 robbery, according to court records.
