Streetscape project brings detours to downtown Wheaton

A yearslong streetscape project in downtown Wheaton will bring temporary detours and parking restrictions to Main Street, starting Tuesday.

Construction crews will install the top layer of asphalt on Main, from Seminary to Illinois streets, weather permitting. Once crews are finished with the final layer of asphalt, they will turn to pavement striping the project area.

The city is encouraging drivers to use an alternate route during the roadwork.

Parking will be restricted along the stretch of Main Street, but spaces will be reopen at night when crews are not at work. Officials urge drivers to use caution in the construction zone and watch for signs directing traffic.
