Cohen says don't worry about Montgomery's injury

The Bears got a scare a couple of weeks ago when running back David Montgomery suffered a groin injury. He slipped on the field, then was caught on camera struggling to his feet and walking gingerly off the field.

Backup Tarik Cohen told reporters Wednesday to stop worrying.

"I feel like the injury was a bigger deal in the media than it really was here," Cohen said. "He bounced back off that so fast. It's like it never happened. He's already back doing things you love to see him doing - running hard and just making that first person have a tough day tackling him.

"I just see him having a great year this year. Like I said, his yards after that first contact is going to be off the charts."

Cohen has always been more of a change-of-pace running back who probably isn't built for 25 carries per game. So the options for replacing Montgomery right now are third-year pro Ryan Nall, who has 2 career carries in the NFL, or return specialist Cordarrelle Patterson, who had some success working in the backfield last season.

Head coach Matt Nagy wouldn't tip his hand about Montgomery's status on Wednesday. But he did suggest the Bears will use Cairo Santos at kicker Sunday, due to an injury to Eddie Pineiro.

Santos has a career percentage of 80.6 on field goals, kicking for five different teams, including the Bears for two games in 2017.
