East Aurora Unit District 131 offers plan on fall 2020 reopening
On July 24, East Aurora Unit District 131 posted a letter from Superintendent Jennifer Norrell on plans for the 2020-21 school year:
“Our district is choosing to respond to the coronavirus pandemic in a manner that prioritizes health and wellness of our students and staff. We also remain committed to providing a high-quality education for your child. This means that we are implementing additional procedures and best practices recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and the Illinois Department of Public Health to keep all children safe this school year.
I urge you to read through this guidance carefully and talk to your children about how they can help stop the spread of this virus.
Our first day of school is Monday, Aug. 24. The school year will begin with two weeks of all remote learning. Then, following the Labor Day holiday, our hybrid learning (in-person and remote hybrid) will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 8. Beginning July 31 through Aug. 7, all families will be asked to complete a form to select either hybrid or full remote learning. Please look for this communication coming soon.
Our plan is based on public health information available at this time, and may be adjusted as new guidance from the Illinois State Board of Education, Illinois Department of Public Health, Centers for Disease Control and other public health officials is received, or as necessary to best support the health and safety of our students and employees.
Staying connected with our families is also a top priority. Be assured that both District 131 and your child's school will share regular updates with you, and allow you to reach out for help when needed. In fact, you can share your questions, comments or concerns about reopening by using a special email address: fall2020@d131.org.
In addition to our website, parent communication will be sent primarily through telephone voice message, Infinite Campus Parent Portal, email, text message, and the District 131 parent app. Please be sure we have your current contact information on file in Infinite Campus. Our goal is to provide students with the opportunity to learn daily through staying academically and socially-emotionally engaged whether in-person or remote.
