Campers Support YMCA with Color Run Fundraiser

Campers from the North Suburban YMCA's summer day camp learned social responsibility and had a good time doing it by participating in the Y's "Color Run & Revive Our Y" fundraiser event on July 24. Participants donated $25 to wear an official "Color Run" t-shirt. Donations made by several anonymous community members provided t-shirts for participants who were unable to make a donation.

The "Color Run" campers ran in the white T-shirts while counselors doused them in multi-colored paint powders during the race. "I had so much fun and I gave back to my community!", said an excited six-year-old Charlie Maher from Northbrook.

Katie Schaefer, a three-year veteran Y counselor added, "I was here last year for the first

Color Run, and the buzz this year was so much bigger. The kids were so excited this morning

and the counselors love this event as much as they do."

Each $25 donation goes toward the "Revive the Y" campaign which helps to restore programs and services, and provides $500,000 in subsidized memberships through financial aid ensuring the Y can grow strong for the future and is able to continue serving its 15 communities. The "Revive the Y" campaign kicked off in July and will continue through 2020.

"With character development being an integral part of our summer camp curriculum, and social responsibility a primary focus, NSYMCA campers did their part to help with a great cause," said Kathy Fielding, NSYMCA CEO.
