Honor senior veterans at Aug. 1 motorcycle/motorcade parade in DeKalb area

The Sycamore American Legion Riders, Genoa American Legion Riders, Heartland Hospice and DeKalb County Forty and Eight are working together to honor senior veterans by having a Motorcycle/Motorcade Parade of Vehicles on Saturday, Aug. 1.

Anyone with a motorcycle, car, truck and any street legal vehicle is encouraged to participate.

While honoring senior veterans, we can also show our respect to all seniors and our healthcare workers at each facility.

They are seeking veteran and non-veteran participants to be in this parade of vehicles. Please come and join us to thank our senior veterans, other seniors, first responders and healthcare workers.

Rain or shine, staging will be at the Sycamore HyVee Food Store, 2700 DeKalb Ave., from 8:15 to 8:50 a.m. followed by a safety briefing and starting at 9 a.m.

Participants will drive to eight different senior living facilities in DeKalb and Sycamore and "Honor Our Senior Veterans" by having the vehicles decorated with American flags and other patriotic items and honking our horns as they drive around their senior living facility twice.

After the parade we are planning to gather together and watch the POW/MIA Ceremony at the Genoa Veterans Home, 311 S. Washington St.

This parade will be the 13th annual Veterans Weekend which started on July 26, 2008 at the DeKalb Taylor Airport.
