Elk Grove Parks Foundation announces scholarship winners
The Elk Grove Parks Foundation announced its 2020 High School Scholarship winners, David Gora and Sarah McNamara.
Both winners were recognized at the July 9 Elk Grove Park District board meeting and were awarded certificates and a $1,000 scholarship check for their outstanding leadership, participation and service to the Elk Grove Village community.
David Gora was selected for his volunteerism to the community and his dedication in helping others over the years. During the current pandemic, David showed exemplary leadership and dedication to helping others by utilizing his own 3-D printer to make COVID-19 approved face shields for local first responders and front-line essential workers.
Sarah McNamara was selected for her volunteerism to the Elk Grove Village community by helping young children who struggled to swim. Sarah participated in many Elk Grove Park District programs over the years and as a park district lifeguard.
Additionally, Sarah drew on her aquatics experience and as a Girl Scout to combat the issue of helping struggling swimmers by pursuing the Girl Scouts Gold Award, which is the highest achievement a Girl Scout can earn.
The Elk Grove Parks Foundation is a 501(c) (3) charitable organization that raises funds for at-risk Elk Grove Village residents so that they may participate in recreational programs. Along with program scholarships, the foundation gives out two, $1,000 scholarships to outstanding high school seniors each year to use for their chosen colleges.
