Clubhouse Chatter: What makes Chicago a great sports city?
What our Sports staff has to say while waiting for the games to resume.
You must have two baseball teams to be a great sports city, so that's a good start. Add in the greatest basketball player of all time and the greatest football player of all time, and you're in pretty good shape. Throw in the best baseball stadium and a passionate fan base, and you have a great sports city.

One thing I like about Chicago, the fans are very loyal to the players who leave it all on the field. But the fans also have impressively long memories when it comes to dislike of opposing players. I remember when James Posey had a run of flagrant fouls against Bulls players, he was booed at the United Center for years. They never forget.

Every game for every pro team seems to be a life-or-death event. Fans go overboard all of the time, but that's a sign of passion.

Wrigley Field. Walter Payton. Michael Jordan. Anthony Rizzo. Soldier Field. And so much more. New York, New Shmorck. Chicago is where it's at.

The emotional connection between Chicago sports teams and their fans is special. The history is remarkable and so are the legends. Few sports cities can boast the likes of Walter Payton and Michael Jordan. And few cities have enjoyed MLB, NFL, NHL and NBA championships in the last 35 years.

I think what makes Chicago a great sports city are the things that have nothing to do with sports - the restaurants, architecture, skyline, entertainment options, the electricity of the city, etc. Plus, the fans are engaged and intelligent.

Passionate, knowledgeable, engaged fans.
