Susan Bennett Exhibits Abstract Expressionist Paintings in NSYMCA Community Gallery

A new show of abstract expressionist paintings by Susan Bennett opens in July at North Suburban YMCA's Community Gallery, located at 2705 Techny Road in Northbrook. To view the art gallery, call the Y at (847) 272-7250 to make an appointment. All visitors are required to wear a mask in the building.

Influenced by the work of Richard Diebenkorn and Joan Mitchell, Bennett moved from a representational style to her current abstract expressionism. She translates her feelings and vision in two dimensions with only line, color, shape, texture and composition.

Bennett majored in art education, but never found her way into a classroom. Her loose abstract style is a complement to the structure of her past IT career. "I find it interesting when people discuss what they see in my work ... figures, landscapes, flora and fauna, or they just like the colors. That discussion means they are connecting in some manner and hopefully growing their appreciation for abstract art," comments Bennett.

The North Suburban YMCA's Community Galleries support the local arts community by presenting free public exhibitions of work by artists from the northern suburbs. The Y also offers a wide variety of art classes and studio space available to all ages. For more information, visit NSYMCA.org.
