Bolingbrook man charged in fatal Lombard crash
A 54-year-old Bolingbrook man has been charged with reckless homicide in a head-on crash Monday in Lombard that resulted in the death of Dulce Olivia Avila-Adame, authorities said Thursday.
DuPage County Judge Brian Telander on Wednesday issued a $50,000 arrest warrant for Richard Kennedy, who is hospitalized and receiving treatment for injuries he received in the crash. Kennedy also is charged with speeding and driving too fast for conditions.
Authorities say Kennedy was speeding on a wet Route 53 about 5:40 p.m. when he crossed over solid lane markings into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into a vehicle driven by Avila-Adame, 28, of Villa Park.
"It is alleged that Mr. Kennedy's reckless actions caused a head-on collision that took the life of Dulce Olivia Avila-Adame," DuPage State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a written statement. "I offer my sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Dulce as they grieve their loss."
"This was an extremely sad event that did not have to happen," Lombard police Chief Roy Newton said.
