St. Emily School Students on the Move
Every May, St. Emily students participate in the school's largest fundraiser, Track-a-Thon. Students secure pledges from family and friends, for each lap they run around the school's track.
The faculty fundraising committee realized this wouldn't be possible while school was closed during the pandemic. The committee envisioned a viable alternative, and Track-a-Thon became Move-a-Thon.
Students were asked to participate by moving for up to 50 minutes, over the May 29-31 weekend. All students were again asked to secure pledges for their minutes of movement, and to send photos or videos to the school.
Students "moved," funds were raised, and the school was able to continue this spring tradition. Photos and videos included students walking, riding bikes, skateboarding, dancing, swimming and jumping on trampolines.
Jackie Ewig, event co-chair, said, "I think that our first Move-a-Thon was a success! We were all able to come 'together' to do something great for our school in a time where being together just wasn't possible. It was fun to see all the creative ways the students moved throughout the weekend event."
St. Emily School families and friends also supported local restaurants during April and May, with Dine and Share events at Mount Prospect's Buona Beef and Hubby's Hot Dogs. Relabeled Dine and "Care" days, they provided needed customers to the businesses which, in turn, donated to the school.
