Glenview Public Library director set to retire June 30

After 18 years at the helm, Glenview Public Library Director Vickie Novak will retire on June 30, the library announced Thursday.

"I struggle to put into words what this has meant to me when I consider all that has been achieved - none of which could have been accomplished without an extraordinary team," Novak said in a news release. "I am humbled by the support, the trust, and the confidence placed in me by trustees and staff, which allowed me to guide this organization for nearly two decades. Working collaboratively, we succeeded in the construction of an outstanding new library, the creation of a legacy for generations of readers. I consider this to be the most significant accomplishment of my professional career - my most cherished memory - and am proud to have been a part of the process."

Novak's career has spanned three public libraries and 46 years as a library director, the release said. Novak's 18 years in Glenview was not only the longest stint of her three professional positions, but also the one she says has defined the essence of her career.

As the Glenview library celebrates its 90th anniversary and begins its journey into its centennial decade, it is time to transition to the next era of leadership. Novak will begin a new chapter in her life, as well, which includes a return to the Kentucky, her "home away from home" for many years.

And she certainly will be missed, library board President Kathy Vega says.

"We are grateful to have had her be a part of the Glenview Library and wish her all the best in the next chapter of her life."
