Making the state suffer
I'm not sure what is more annoying, listening to the nonsense from J.B. Pritzker regarding the lockdown or the softball questions from the supine press. Could anyone have asked him why he set up four sections of the state weeks ago, promising to treat each one according to "the science," but he now treats the entire state based on numbers for Chicago. The state has had a pandemic plan for decades that said to open up county by county, but he chose not to follow it.
The press never raised the issue and the amount of unnecessary economic suffering outside Chicago and other major cities has been and will continue to be tremendous - thousands of personal and small company bankruptcies. Maybe someone could ask him whether if we get to Stage 5 and there is a major outbreak in, say, Carbondale, will he shut down Chicago?
Somehow I do not think so and the press will nod quietly.
