Palatine Lions Club Awards Annual Scholarships

The Palatine Lions Club recently awarded two $1,000 scholarships to students from local high schools. The Club has been awarding qualifying graduating high school seniors from local schools with scholarships since 1996 and is proud to continue this recognition of the qualities and efforts of these students throughout their high school careers. They are as follows:

Emma Odle is the scholarship recipient from William Fremd High School. Emma is an outstanding student. She has taken and received high grades in several Advanced Placement Courses. She is also a gifted athlete who has participated on the track and field and cross country teams all four years of high school and has even competed at the state level! She is a leader and role model among her peers. Emma has enrolled in Augustana College and is planning on pursuing an advanced degree in Audiology. She is a fantastic young woman in every way.

Claire Hidalgo is the scholarship recipient from Rolling Meadows high school. She will be attending Illinois State University and will be majoring in special education, (Learning Behavioral Specialist). She plans to minor in American Sign Language (ASL). The experience of having a deaf teacher provided real insight to Claire on how she can simultaneously help people and also learn herself. She plans to use her major and minor subjects to help advocate and educate those who deserve an equal and fair education like any other student.

Emma and Claire are excellent academic students and are leaders in their school as well as the community. These fine young people are an example of excellence in our schools. The Palatine Lions Club is proud to support these fine students as they pursue their goals through higher education and hope they will pursue volunteerism as part of their future.
