Vernon Hills delivers survival kits to area senior center members
"During a time of the unknown and constant changes to what is referred to now as the 'new normal' of COVID-19, our thoughts circled back to the Vernon Hills Senior Organization," said Monica Lundeen, who works in the village's community development department.
The senior organization has space at the village hall but has been unable to meet because of the quarantine.
"Due to COVID-19 and our VH Senior Center being closed, we have not seen many of our seniors in three months. We reached out and continue to do so with wellness check calls," Lundeen said.
"As COVID-19 continues, we continue the wellness checks and have initiated a monthly roundup of additional checks through various ideas flowing from our Community Development Department."
For June, Vernon Hills employees have assembled COVID-19 survival kits to be delivered to each Vernon Hills Senior Center member. The kits include toiletries, donated coupons for free, 9-inch HITZ pizzas, emergency phone lists, nail polish, postage stamped note cards, pens, games and other fun items.
"We ask that whether you have a senior neighbor or know of any seniors in your community, to please check in on them periodically," Lundeen said. "Seniors are valued by all communities, and is important to check in on and help out as needed."
