Walgreens chief takes new job in Tennessee
Walgreens President Richard Ashworth is leaving the position he's held for three months to become the head of Tivity Health, the Nashville-based health and fitness company, it was announced Friday.
Ashworth will become president and CEO on June 1, replacing Bob Greczyn, who had been interim CEO since February. Greczyn is a member of Tivity Health's board of directors and has over 30 years of leadership experience in managed care and health care.
Ashworth was named president of the Deerfield-based drugstore chain in February. Before that he had been the company's president of operations since 2017, and was president of pharmacy and retail operations from 2014 to 2017. Ashworth started his Walgreens career as a service clerk in 1992.
Alex Gourlay, co-chief operating officer of Walgreens parent company Walgreen Boots Alliance, will lead the company in Ashworth's place. Gourlay held a similar position before Walgreens appointed Ashworth president.
Tivity Health is a provider of health and fitness-related products and services, which include the Nutrisystem, Prime Fitness, Wisely Well, and South Beach Diet brands.
Tivity Health board chairman Anthony Sanfilippo said Ashworth "is the right person to lead the Tivity Health team.
"Richard has significant experience navigating a rapidly changing health care landscape while serving a portfolio of large customers and individual consumers in the intensely competitive retail realm," Sanfilippo said.
Ashworth has a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and a master's degree in business administration.
