Wood Dale Police Department partaking in virtual assessment

The Wood Dale Police Department is taking part in a virtual on-site assessment of its services as part of a nationally recognized program to achieve accreditation by verifying compliance with strict professional standards.

Administered by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencie Inc. (CALEA), the accreditation program requires agencies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services. The department has been an accredited agency since 2001.

The Wood Dale Police Department takes pride in successfully achieving these professionally standards. Wood Dale was recently recognized as one of Illinois' safest communities thanks to the high criteria established by the Department.

"The department works hard to provide a high level of safety for the community," said Wood Dale Police Chief Greg Vesta. "But we also make a presence through school programs, special events and outreach to build relationships with Wood Dale residents, and establish ourselves as part of the Community."

Normally as part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session. Due to COVID-19 no public information session will be held.

Agency employees and the public are invited to offer comments by calling (630) 787-3809 on Monday, May 18, between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. and Tuesday, May 19, between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Comments will be taken by the Assessment Team.

Telephone comments are limited to 10 minutes and must address the police department's ability to comply with CALEA's standards. Copies of the standards are available at the Wood Dale Police Department. The local contact is Planning and Research Analyst Chrissie Sobanski at 630-787-3861.
