Mount Prospect cancels Fourth of July Festival, two parades
Mount Prospect has canceled the Lions Club Fourth of July Festival, the village's Independence Day parade and other summer events in anticipation of continued social distancing protocols for COVID-19.
The Downtown Block Party, Memorial Day parade and Celebrations of Cultures also are called off, village officials said in an announcement Wednesday.
The Friday on the Green concerts, scheduled to start May 29, have been canceled through July.
Other changes to the village's summer schedule include:
• The Mount Prospect Human Services Department events typically held in the Farley Community Room or at the Community Connections Center are canceled through July. This includes Ageless Grace, Conversations in English and the monthly blood drive.
• The Mount Prospect Public Works Open House set for May 19 is canceled.
• The village will run last year's Memorial Day parade on MPDC, Channel 17 on Comcast and WOW and on Facebook. There will be a listing of veterans who have passed away since last Memorial Day.
• The Mount Prospect Lions Club Farmers Market at the Metra East Commuter Lot will likely open on time June 7, but with considerable modifications. They include allowing food vendors only, with booths spaced at least 10 feet apart and customers able to purchase prepackaged produce only. Attendees should keep an eye out for special restrictions as the open date draws closer.
• The Lions Club Bluesmobile Cruise Nights car shows, scheduled to start June 13, likely will be postponed if social distancing protocols are still in place.
• The village will not approve requests for neighborhood block parties through July.
