Fit for Kings Even While Sheltering in Place
While their kingdoms may be smaller than usual, they're still eating like royalty. Residents of Friendship Village senior living community in Schaumburg have been sheltering in place in their apartments during the COVID-19 crisis. The dining services department is making sure that they have a great variety of menu options from which to choose, and meals are being delivered by masked associates to their apartments.
The kitchen is preparing and packing roughly 1,500 meals per day. Available entrees include citrus poached salmon, chicken piccata, apricot glazed pork chop, and filet mignon.
Friendship Village is also making use of its FORKK teaching kitchen and will be broadcasting cooking classes and demonstrations to the residents' apartments.
While the residents are still eating well during the quarantine, they're also keeping busy. The Friendship Village lifestyles team is broadcasting fitness classes, games, lectures, and other programming from 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
"Residents are receiving services, programming, and meals differently right now, but we're still 'delivering.' Literally, in fact," said Jill Steco, lifestyles director. "We are dedicated to keeping our residents active, engaged, and well-fed at all times!"
