Online forum helps pantries share lessons

West Suburban Community Pantry in Woodridge is collaborating with the Thierer Family Foundation to develop an online platform for food support organizations to share lessons learned during the response to the new coronavirus pandemic.

The online forum allows organizations to use a chat function to share experiences, post resources and seek advice to assist with emergency programs. The site also includes a timeline detailing the progression of the coronavirus crisis and federal guidance on how to handle it.

The forum is part of the Thierer Family Foundation's work to increase the effect of nonprofits by helping them use technology and innovative ideas to be more efficient and sustainable.

West Suburban Community Pantry has been collaborating during the past few weeks with other nonprofit organizations including DuPage PADS, Lakeview Pantry, Loaves & Fishes Community Services, People's Resource Center, Tri Town YMCA and Hinsdale Family Services.

The pantry is distributing food in prepackaged boxes instead of by allowing clients to choose it by shopping inside the facility. Donations of food, cash and cardboard boxes are needed. For details or to donate, visit wscpantry.org.
