Arlington Heights mayor encourages donations, support of local restaurants
Arlington Heights Mayor Tom Hayes wrote in a community letter Wednesday that the village government is here to help and officials' top priority is the health, safety and welfare of all in the community.
To that point, Hayes welcomed any donations to Arlington Cares, which provides emergency funds through the village to those in need. Donations can be made online at www.arlingtoncaresnfp.org/.
Residents who are experiencing temporary economic hardship and meet income qualifications can receive assistance for basic needs, like rent and utilities.
Hayes also encouraged residents to support local restaurants by ordering from those offering pickup or delivery during the state-mandated dining room closure, which remains in effect through March 30. The village is maintaining an updated list of restaurants at discoverarlington.com/what_s_new/supporting_our_restaurants.
"Our businesses add vibrancy to our lives and to the appeal of Arlington Heights as a dining and entertainment destination," Hayes wrote. "More than ever before, our local restaurants and businesses need your loyal community support!"
Hayes said village officials remain in constant communication with federal, state and county health officials.
He expressed support for following protocols and mandates set by the health agencies to mitigate spread of the virus, such as social distancing, washing hands, covering coughs and sneezes, working from home if possible, and staying home if sick.
"Thank you for continuing to build upon our strong community spirit as the largest small town in America," Hayes wrote. "Together, we will get through this unprecedented time."
