Geneva United Methodist Church to worship online Sundays

The United Methodist Church of Geneva will not be holding in-person worship this Sunday, March 22, but will be worshipping online, as they did last week.

You are invited to join the service at www.facebook.com/umcgeneva or www.genevaumc.org. Plans are to continue worship in this way for at least the next two months.

A time of devotion and prayer also will be live on Facebook every Wednesday and Friday at noon, with Senior Pastor Rich Darr, Associate Pastor Esther Lee, and Pastor Mary Gay McKinney, Director of Congregational Care, leading in rotation.

"In difficult times we turn to family, friends and our community for help, and rightly so," Darr said. "As Pastor of UMCG, I encourage you also to turn to your faith community as a source of strength, encouragement and hope. Above all, I remind you of Jesus's Great Invitation - 'Come to me, all who are weary and carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.' In this time of fear and anxiety God is our refuge and strength, an always-present help in time of trouble. And so we will go through this current pandemic together - as family, friends, community, and faith community, knowing that God is with us."

Many churches are now worshipping online because of the restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic.

On March 16, Bishop Sally Dyck of the Northern Illinois Conference of the United Methodist Church called for the suspension of in-person worship at UMC churches in Northern Illinois for eight weeks.
