Village of Mount Prospect offers coronavirus update

As cases of coronavirus - COVID-19 - continue to increase, the Village of Mount Prospect is following the directions set forth by the state of Illinois to prevent further spread of the disease. In an effort to protect both our residents and employees, the village has stayed in close contact with health officials and continues to monitor updates from the Centers for Disease Control, Illinois Department of Public Health and Cook County Department of Public Health.

Residents are strongly encouraged to practice social distancing measures, such as working from home when it's an option, staying home as much as possible, and trying to avoid public transportation or other places where the public is within close contact to one another. These actions will help reduce the number of people who become sick.

The Village of Mount Prospect takes seriously the advice of infectious disease experts. In response to this evolving situation, the village is currently taking several proactive and precautionary steps to help prevent the spread of the virus in our community:

The village will be adhering to Gov. Pritzker's restrictions limiting restaurants to takeout or drive-through service, only. This restriction starts at the close of business Monday, March 16 and runs through March 30, based on information provided by Gov. Pritzker at the news conference held on Sunday, March 15 at 3 p.m.

Many of our businesses have posted how they will operate to comply with this directive. The village encourages you to support our local businesses by using their takeout, drive through and delivery options.

The Village will be closing the Public Works Facility (1700 W. Central Rd) and Fire Headquarters (112 E. Northwest Hwy) to the public starting Monday, March 16 through Tuesday, March 31. Staff will be working; the public is encouraged to call, email or use the customer response portal available at mountprospect.org/CRM to report concerns or ask questions.

Village Hall will be open for regular hours to the public but with reduced staff for the protection of employees and residents. When possible, residents are strongly encouraged to conduct business online, by phone or email. Visit mountprospect.org/OnlineUtilityBill to register to pay your bill online.

The deadline for vehicle sticker purchases has been extended by 30 days (to June 1).

Residents should anticipate some additional precautions, for example: a simple question screening of clients for one-on-one appointments.

Residents who are sick or in isolation will be asked to delay/reschedule appointments.

The village's food pantry will remain open, but will be offering a weekly pickup of pre-packed food (no pantry browsing).

All non-mandated public meetings will be canceled or/rescheduled. All senior events and programs scheduled for the Farley Community Room are canceled through April 4.

The Village Board will meet for their regular meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17. Residents are encouraged to participate via livestream (www.mountprospect.org) and call in or text to (847) 250-6277 if they wish to provide comments or questions.

Early voting at Village Hall in the Farley Community Room on Monday, March 16 will still take place as scheduled (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.).

Election-day voting on Tuesday, March 17 will continue as scheduled.

Senior citizens and other residents with special needs who have questions should call the Human Services Department at (847) 870-5680.

The village will continue to update residents as new information becomes available.
