St. Catherine of Siena announces changes to parish activities, Masses

Editor's note: In response to COVID-19, a letter from Bishop Malloy of the Rockford Diocese was released March 13 stating that all parishioners over the age of 60 and all who are not feeling well, have a preexisting medical condition or compromised immune system, or any other medical issue are dispensed from Sunday Mass attendance.

Further, St. Catherine of Siena School, Faith Formation, and all parish activities are cancelled until further notice.

The parish office will be open with very limited hours.

Public Masses will continue without the Sign of Peace or the distribution of the Precious Blood.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation will continue as scheduled.

Stations of the Cross will continue as scheduled.

St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in West Dundee announces its Lent and Easter schedules for Be Reconciled Day, Easter Holy Week services, blessing of Easter food baskets, and Easter Mass.

Stations of the Cross will be held every Friday during Lent at 2:25 and 7 p.m.

"Let us gather together during this Holy Week and the celebration of the Resurrection on Easter Sunday to profess our faith and strengthen our families, parish and community," said the Rev. Matthew DeBlock, pastor of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church and St. Mary, Gilberts.

"Our Catholic Diocese of Rockford is again inviting Catholics to come to confession during the 'Be Reconciled' day set for Wednesday, April 1," said Rev. DeBlock. "It will be held this year from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at St. Catherine's. Weekly confession times will be held per our regular schedule."

For Palm Sunday, worship will be held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, April 4, and 7:30, 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. Sunday, April 5, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. Worship also will be held at 9 a.m. April 5 at St. Mary, Gilberts.

On Holy Thursday, April 9, Morning Prayer will be at 8 a.m.; Mass of the Lord's Supper (with incense) at 7 p.m.; and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament after the Mass until midnight at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church.

On Good Friday, April 10, Morning Prayer will be at 8 a.m.; Commemoration of the Lord's Passion at 3 p.m.; and Stations of the Cross at 7 p.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. This is a day of fast and abstinence.

On Holy Saturday, April 11, Morning Prayer will be at 8 a.m.; Blessing of Easter Food Baskets at 10:30 a.m.; Easter Vigil Mass at 7:30 p.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. There will be no 4:30 p.m. Mass.

On Easter Sunday, April 12, join Mass at St. Catherine of Siena at 7:30, 9:30 or 11:30 a.m.; or at St. Mary, Gilberts at 9 a.m.

St. Catherine of Siena Church is located at 845 W. Main St. in West Dundee. St. Mary Church is located at Matteson Street and Galligan Road in Gilberts.
