Addressing virus with science, not politics

Republican candidates for Congress in the 14th Congressional District have a lot to say about how they'd support President Trump achieve his agenda. But they haven't yet said much about how they'd help the President address the coronavirus. Maybe that's because they're obeying presidential orders not to talk about the virus. Loyalty is a fine quality, but when loyalty cloaks ignorance, it's a disservice to citizens and it's misplaced.

Recently, Lauren Underwood issued a detailed report on the coronavirus. It lists symptons and preventions, and what steps to take if you think you might be infected. There's a section about travel and links to the Centers for Disease Control, the Illinois Department of Health, and the State Department for the latest updates.

Her report is comprehensive, detailed, fact-laden, and non-partisan on one of the most serious threats to public health in recent memory. And who could be surprised? The report is, after all, provided by a public servant with a background in public health and contagious diseases like Zika and Ebola who believes health shouldn't be politicized or tied to ups and downs in the stock market.
