Double Green Drinks in Leap Year February

Leap year 2020 means extra Green Drinks in Barrington! Join them at two free presentations in February. Debuting in South Barrington at The Arboretum, 100 W. Higgins Road, Green Drinks welcomes Mary Beth Schaye, Zero Waste Consultant for Collective Resource on Wednesday, February 19 at 7 p.m. Mary Beth will talk about how composting is the greenest thing we can do. Pre-registeration is requested.

Collective Resource (CRI) began when founder Erlene Howard, an Evanston resident, "became interested in composting, but couldn't find a good place to do it in her condo environment. She was inspired to start a food scrap recycling service when she realized that if composting were made more convenient, more people would do it". The company now uses seven cargo vans to collect pre and post-consumer food scraps weekly in an area that encompasses over 60 communities in the Chicagoland area. CRI collects on average 20 tons of compost per week. In June of 2019, the company celebrated a total collection milestone of 5,000 tons. Learn more at collectiveresource.us.

Green Drinks will be back upstairs at McGonigal's, 150 S. Cook St., Barrington, on Wednesday, February 26 at 7 p.m., with Ashley Marinko. An energetic environmentalist, she will highlight the building initiatives of the Illinois Green Alliance to advance carbon drawdown strategies. This presentation will be especially interesting to youth as Ashley tells us about her career path including prior work at Seven Generations Ahead and even gives us a few tips on sustainable clothing options.

The Illinois Green Alliance is a membership driven, non-profit that works to promote green buildings and sustainable communities. They believe that green infrastructure is key to strengthening neighborhoods and improving the quality of life for everyone. They are the local affiliate of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
