Hawthorn School District 73 Opens Kindergarten Pre-Registration and Offers Two Parent Information Nights

Pre-registration will open Feb. 3 for all incoming Hawthorn School District 73 kindergarten students for the 2020-2021 school year. To pre-register, visit:

The Hawthorn School for Young Learners is scheduled to open in the fall of the 2020-2021 school year. The Hawthorn School for Young Learners is the new kindergarten building currently under construction next to the Sullivan Community Center on Aspen Drive. The School of Dual Language, which provides instruction to students in both Spanish and English with the program goals of bilingualism and biliteracy, will continue to have students attend kindergarten within their building.

The District has scheduled two Kindergarten Informational Nights for the community:

March 3, 2020: Kindergarten Information Night for parents of kindergarten students who are considering dual language programming for their children. That meeting will take place at 7:00 p.m. in the library at the School of Dual Language, 810 N. Aspen Drive in Vernon Hills.

March 10, 2020: Kindergarten Information Night for parents of all incoming Hawthorn kindergarten students. The meeting will take place at 7:00 p.m., in the gym of Hawthorn Elementary South, 430 N. Aspen Drive in Vernon Hills.

In order to attend kindergarten in the state of Illinois, a child should be 5 years old on or before September 1 of the kindergarten year and live within the boundaries of the school district. Hawthorn School District 73 is a preschool through eighth-grade public school district serving more than 4,200 students. It serves all or portions of the communities of Vernon Hills, Mundelein, Libertyville, Indian Creek and unincorporated areas of Lake County, Illinois.
