Oakton, Harper ranked among state's top nursing programs

Oakton Community College in Des Plaines and Harper College in Palatine have been ranked among the top 10 schools in Illinois to earn an associate degree in nursing.

The rankings were published recently by PracticalNursing.org, a nursing advocacy organization created by nurses and other health care industry stakeholders to provide free resources, tools and information for future nurses.

According to the methodology listed on its website, schools were rated based on four criteria: academic quality (consisting of acceptance rate, graduation rate, retention rate and student to faculty ratio); recent passing rates on the national professional licensure exam for nurses; affordability; and reputation.

Oakton placed fifth on the list, while Harper placed eighth, of the 96 programs evaluated. Among four-year programs, Loyola university ranked first.
