Curbside Textile Recycling Collection in Schaumburg Begins Dec. 9

On Monday, Dec. 9, the Village of Schaumburg, in partnership with Simple Recycling, will begin offering residents free curbside collection of used textiles and small household items.

The textile recycling collection program will help reduce pollution at no cost to residents while increasing energy savings to the village. Residents who receive recycling collection from the Village of Schaumburg will be receiving informational mailers from Simple Recycling, which contain orange collection bags. Residents can fill these bags with items such as clothing, coats, shoes, bedding and home goods in any condition. For a list of eligible items, visit http://bit.ly/2MVeEbq.

Bags can be conveniently placed curbside on the same day as normal garbage collection and will be picked up by Simple Recycling trucks free of charge. Once Simple Recycling collects bags from a residence, collection staff will leave replacement bags tied to the recycling cart or front door.

The curbside textile recycling program does not target clothing donations to charities; rather it is aimed at diverting clothing and home goods placed in curbside trash away from landfills. According to a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) study, more than 84 percent of old clothes, shoes, belts, handbags, and textile items end up in a landfill or an incinerator.

For more information about the Simple Recycling program, residents can call (866) 835-5068 or visit www.simplerecycling.com.
