Warrenville physician found not guilty of inappropriately touching patient

A DuPage County judge has acquitted a Warrenville neurologist who had been accused of inappropriately touching a female patient.

On Friday, after a two-day bench trial, Dr. Henry Echiverri was found not guilty of misdemeanor battery.

Echiverri, of Warrenville, was charged in December. At the time, he was affiliated with Edward Neurosciences Institute in Warrenville and Yorkville and Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield.

According to court documents, his accuser said that, during an examination on Jan. 17, 2018, he touched her beneath her underwear and afterward "hugged and kissed (the victim) on the cheeks after a doctor's visit." The state presented two witnesses, including a detective from the Warrenville Police Department.

Echiverri's attorney, Frank DeSalvo, said Friday evening his client now will work to get his medical license restored.

"He wants his privacy," DeSalvo said. "He's trying to restore his reputation, and this has been devastating to him."

During the trial, DeSalvo said, his client received overwhelming support from Edward Hospital staff and his patients, saying 30 to 40 people showed up to encourage him.

A message sent to the Warrenville detective Friday seeking comment was not immediately returned.
