Dining out: Ballydoyle hosts Cheers to 10 Years tappings

Cheers to 10 years

It's been 10 years since Ballydoyle Irish Pub started serving McCaffery's Irish Cream Ale, a custom brew made by Argus Brewery for the pub. And to celebrate, Argus is crafting a limited edition version of the brew that will be tapped at 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, at the Downers Grove location and at 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at the Aurora pub. To help celebrate, Dick Diamond & The Dusters will play at 9 p.m. Friday in Downers Grove and Alt 101 will play at 9 p.m. Saturday in Aurora.

Winter warm up

Alexanders Cafe in Elgin and St. Charles goes seasonal with some new menu items starting Wednesday, Nov. 20. Start off with sippers such as Ghirardelli hot chocolate, Oberweis eggnog latte, peppermint mocha and gingerbread latte. Then consider the sweet potato and chorizo skillet ($11.99), Holiday Cake French Toast (pound cake dredged in cinnamon, sugar and milk and topped with cream cheese icing and holiday sprinkles for $8.99), lobster Benedict ($15.99), chili steak omelet ($10.99) and Egg Noggin' Pancakes (pancakes made with eggnog and topped with raspberry coulis, whipped cream and sprinkles for $8.99).

Donate & Dine

With the holiday season approaching, Tokio Asian Fusion is hosting a special Donate & Dine food drive event from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, to benefit the Schaumburg Food Pantry. Here's the deal: Bring in 10 nonperishable canned goods and receive a $25 Tokio Asian Fusion gift card to be used on a future visit. Donations can be dropped off at the host stand at check-in. Although diners are encouraged to bring in more than 10 items, only one $25 gift card will be given per person.

Jazz up your weekend

If you haven't been to Hey Nonny's weekend brunch yet, chef Tony Hernandez recently added some new tempting dishes including steak chilaquiles, pumpkin pancakes, steak and kale salad, quiche du jour and a daily Benedict in addition to the mascarpone French toast, fried chicken and corn masa waffles, Farmer's Skillet, brunch burger and more. Plus, there's live music starting at 10:30 a.m., featuring bluegrass on Saturdays and jazz on Sundays. For the holidays, Hernandez is adding Christmas Quiche and Santa pancakes starting Saturday, Nov. 30.

If you're tired of traditional pie for Thanksgiving dessert, Krispy Kreme has some new options: Dutch Apple Pie, Chocolate Kreme Pie and Cherry Pie doughnuts, which are available now through Thursday, Nov. 28. And on Saturday, Nov. 23, doughnut fans can buy two dozen doughnuts (two dozen Original Glazed or one dozen Original Glazed and one assorted dozen) for $13.
