Fox Lake woman pleads not guilty to kicking police officer

A 40-year-old woman accused of kicking a Fox Lake police officer pleaded not guilty to the charges Thursday.

Dana West, of the 0-100 block of Howard Court in Fox Lake, faces two felony counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer, one felony count of resisting arrest and two misdemeanor counts of domestic battery.

Police Chief Jimmy Lee said two officers were dispatched to West's house about 10:30 p.m. Oct. 6 for a reported domestic issue. Lee said the officers determined West, who appeared to be highly intoxicated, had been violent toward a family member. When the officers told West she was going to be arrested, she began kicking, Lee said.

"She kicked and screamed," Lee said. "She kicked an officer in her leg and in her knee."

Lee said the female officer who was attacked did not need medical attention.

A Lake County judge set West's bail at $25,000, and she remains in Lake County jail. West is due back before a judge Nov. 8.
