Mundelein Pumpkin Drop canceled

An annual post-Halloween pumpkin composting event in Mundelein that would've featured a catapult throwing leftover gourds across a field has been canceled.

The Pumpkin Drop event was planned for Saturday at Community Park, but a forecast of poor weather and a lack of people available to operate the machine prompted the cancellation, officials said.

However, a collection bin for unwanted pumpkins for composting will be available at the park, 1401 N. Midlothian Road.
