Elgin pastor charged with sexually assaulting a child
An Elgin-area pastor has been charged with sexually assaulting a child, prosecutors said Thursday.
Elizandro Salazar Montoya, a pastor at Iglesia Apostólica de Elgin at 37W080 Hopps Road, sexually assaulted and sexually abused the victim between Nov. 1 and Dec. 1, according a news release from the Kane County state's attorney's office. He knew the victim, the release said.
Montoya's bail was set at $300,000, and he must post 10% to be released pending trial.
If he posts bond, Montoya would be banned from contacting the victim or the victim's family, along with anyone younger than 18, the news release said. He would also be also prohibited from being within 500 feet of the victim's home and the church, according to the news release.
Montoya, 46, of the 0-100 block of North Lord Avenue in Carpentersville, is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 25 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
