1 dead, 1 injured in 3-vehicle McHenry County crash

A 42-year-old Lake Villa man was killed and the passenger in his vehicle seriously injured in a three-vehicle crash early Monday morning in unincorporated McHenry County near Richmond.

According to the McHenry County sheriff's office, a Nissan cargo van driven by the Lake Villa man was headed north on Keystone Road just before 8 a.m. nearing the Route 173 intersection when it failed to stop at a stop sign and struck a Terex Crane driven east on Route 173 by a 37-year-old Hebron man.

The impact of the collision knocked both the van and crane into a 2017 Jeep Wrangler driven by a 19-year-old Richmond woman waiting to turn south onto Keystone Road.

The Lake Villa man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger in the van, a 28-year-old man from Ingleside, was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in serious condition.

The roads were closed for seven hours as part of the investigation, which remains ongoing, sheriff's officials said.
