Fall hydrant flushing begins Oct. 1 in West Chicago

The city of West Chicago's Water Utility Division will flush fire hydrants this fall beginning on Oct. 1. The work will be done between 7 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Signs will be posted in the area prior to hydrant flushing.

Hydrant flushing maintains West Chicago's water distribution system and assures proper operation of hydrants in the event of an emergency.

Unfortunately, discolored water can result. Even when flushing is not being done in the immediate area, discolored water can occur. This discoloration poses no health risk. However, please check the water before washing the laundry.

If laundry staining occurs, do not dry the affected clothing.

A laundry aid to remove iron stains can be picked up at City Hall, 475 Main St. Call the Public Works Department at (630) 293-2255 with any questions about hydrant flushing.
