Girls volleyball: Sixteen straight wins for Fremd; Hersey rolls on
Sweet 16.
Fremd's impressive winning streak reached 16 straight on Tuesday night as the Vikings topped host Schaumburg 25-12, 25-17 in the Mid-Suburban West girls volleyball match.
The Vikings raised their record to 16-2 and 4-0 in the West. They meet Palatine (6-5, 3-1) on Thursday.
Rylen Reid (10 kills), Breslin Reid (5 kills) and Allie Belmonte (2 kills) led the attack for Fremd which received 4 aces from Claudia Wala and three from Izzy Segoviano.
Rian Baker added two while Lydia Vander Ark (8 assists) and Baker (8 assists) handled the setting duties against the Saxons 0-4 in the West.
Hersey D. Wheeling: Kati Kaburov (14 kills, 4 digs), Nora Zielke (9 kills 2 aces 5 digs) and Janine Boyan (5 kills, 1 block) led the attack for visiting Hersey (15-3, 4-0) in the 25-13, 25-19 MSL East win.
Maddie Mullin had 13 digs for the Huskies.
Wheeling (10-11, 2-2) was led by Emily LaCaeyse (3 kills), Ally Ferraro (2 kills) and Grace Zambrano (4 aces).
Palatine D. Barrington: Palatine (6-5, 3-1) posted a 25-19, 15-25, 25-17 in the MSL West match.
Karina Szafraniec (5 aces), Jillian Smith and Emily Campe (4 aces) each had 7 kills for the visiting Pirates while Allison Drake handed out 24 assists. Sydney Wiebe and Drake each had 9 digs and Smith produced six. Sarah Elischer had 4 blocks.
Barrington (8-8, 2-2) was led on attack Noelle Daehler (10 kills, blocks), Felicia Guagliardo (6 kills, 6 points, 9 assists, 4 digs) and Christina Copertino (5 kills, 1 block) while Amelia Sigaev added 8 assists with 8 digs and 2 kills.
Conant D. Hoffman Estates: Chikere Odoucha (8 blocks), Danielle Smith (3 kills), Yuri Hara (5 kills, 9 digs), Gianna Spetka (5 digs), Emma Bowman (3 aces) led visiting Conant (11-11, 3-1) in a 25-13 25-16 MSL West triumph over Hoffman (4-8, 0-4).
Prospect D. Elk Grove: Host Prospect (9-4, 3-1) won the Mid-Suburban East match 25-6, 25-12 over the Grenadiers (3-19, 0-4).
St. Viator D. Marian Central Catholic: The visiting Lions (9-8, 1-2) earned a 26-24, 17-25, 26-24 in the East Suburban Catholic Conference match as Marie Torosian (11 kills), Lauren Allaire (8), Marcelina Gorny (7) led he attack set by Harrington (18 assists) and Aldana (11 assists). Reanne Valera had 14 digs.
