Girls volleyball: Wodrich, Grant ace Round Lake

Sophomore outside hitter Cadence Wodrich served 5 aces in just one set, and Grant defeated host Round Lake 25-17, 25-23 in Northern Lake County Conference girls volleyball action Thursday night.

Grant (7-7, 1-1) received big efforts at the net from Jazzlyn Linbo (6 kills, 2 blocks, 2 aces) and Anelise Johnson (4 kills, 1 block).

Lakes d. Grayslake Central: Ashley Smith had 6 kills and 5 digs, Devinn Bell dished out 20 assists, and the host Eagles won their Northern Lake County Conference opener 25-15, 25-15.

Lakes (11-7) also received contributions from Kelli Rettig (4 kills, 3 aces, 12 digs), Allison Stover (4 aces, 3 digs), Paula Ceneac (4 kills), Molly Reuland (4 kills), Emma Martinez (3 kills) and Tea Leonora (5 digs).

Antioch d. North Chicago: The visiting Sequoits won 25-7, 25-5 to improve to 2-0 in the Northern Lake County Conference, as Elliana Nordhaus delivered 5 aces and Maiah Moll tallied 18 assists and 3 aces.

Antioch (15-3) also for 5 kills and 2 aces from Ayanna Tommy and 5 digs from Hannah Benes.

Vernon Hills d. Regina Dominican: The visiting Cougars won the nonconference match 25-22, 25-21 to even their record at 8-8, as junior setter Abby Wisniewski orchestrated the offense with 23 assists.

Veronica Gavin and Taylor Proft led the Cougars with 7 kills apiece, followed behind by Daniella Jarrell, who added 5 kills. Wisniewski also led the Cougars from the service line with 3 aces, and freshman Alexa Cieslinski tallied 2 aces. To wrap up a solid performance overall by Wisniewski, defensively she had 10 digs. Freshman libero Elli Amjadi had 11 digs, and senior Jacklyn Self had eight.
