Crews replacing water main along Wheaton's Manchester Road
Crews from Trine Construction are replacing segments of an aging water main along Manchester Road from Hazelton Avenue to County Farm Road in Wheaton.
The roughly $1 million project should be completed by mid-November. City engineers planned for the water main replacement along with roadwork that received federal funding.
"Federal funds only cover the resurfacing of these collector streets, therefore, the city evaluates the existing infrastructure and replaces those which have reached their useful life," Senior Project Engineer Sarang Lagvankar said in an email Monday. "In this case, the existing water main is in need of replacement due to the age and frequent breaks during spring and winter."
The work is not related to construction of the new Jefferson Early Childhood Center, but the new main does serve the school.
Crews will transfer existing services to the new main once it is tested, disinfected and placed in service, Lagvankar wrote.
No detours are posted, but drivers should expect delays.
Residents will be notified in advance if water temporarily will be shut off on their block.
