Help an adult learn English with Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley

Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley is hosting a free tutor training workshop for residents who want to help Tri-Cities adults learn English.

The four-session workshop will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, Oct. 7-16, at the St. Charles Public Library, 1 S. Sixth Ave.

Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley provides texts, study material, and training so that anyone can be a volunteer. You do not need a background in education or a second language to be effective. Adult learners say that the best tutors are patient, listen, and give practical information.

Each volunteer who completes the workshop will meet with one adult learner for one hour each week. Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley arranges convenient, comfortable, and safe public locations for tutoring. If you can spare one hour each week, we can fit tutoring into your schedule.

As volunteers see their adult learners get more comfortable and fluent in English, they know that they are making a difference. Volunteers also benefit as they broaden their understanding of cultures, values, and lifestyles different from their own.

To register for training, visit www.lvfv.org/events/trainingschedule or call/text Peg Coker at (630) 584-4428.
